New CJL Group Forms

KosherIn attempt to cut expenses and increase efficiency, KESHER and KOACH have inked a merger agreement and will be creating a new post- denominational, progressive-halakhic Jewish group to be called KOSHER.

KOSHER's first meeting will take place on Sunday afternoon over lunch at 12:30 a.m. Dietary laws will kind of be observed, but kind of not.

Passover Seder Update

matzahWe are pleased to announce that once again, this year, the CJL will be offering multiple seders to meet every students' interests.

In an effort to reach the largest number of people possible, we have taken on seder sponsors.

The CJL would like to thank the 2007 seders sponsor: Panera Bread Company.

CJL Renovations Slated

Lewis LibraryArchitects Robert A.M. Stern and Frank Gehry have announced a joint initiative to combine the buildings of the Lewis Library with the Center for Jewish Life.

The new building will tower over the existing construction and join the two buildings with the Princeton Shield intersection the tablets of the covenant in a 20 story high-rise tower crossing both Washington Road and Ivy Lane to create spiritual and actual land bridge between the sciences and religion. "We foresee this as a tangible bridge between evolution and creation," remarked Seth Goren, Center for Jewish Life Vice Admiral for Programming .

This concept had been under discussion for many months and caused a halt in construction on the library as revised permits were approved. Construction is slated to begin on 13 Nisan, 5767.

From the Librarian

Jewish TextsThe CJL Library is delighted to announce that in connection with the new CJL /Lewis Library renovation plan, a patented “endless genizah” will be constructed beneath the building.

This state-of-the-art hole in the ground will be laser drilled into the crust beneath the Princeton campus, to the level of the earth’s molten core. With careful management, the photocopies, old prayer books and other materials generated by the CJL that require ritual disposal in a genizah will not exceed the capacity of the endless hole until the year 2026.
