The CJL is committed to making Jewish learning opportunities available to all students, regardless of their past educational experience. The primary educators on staff are Rabbi Josh and Rivky Ross, co-Directors of Education. Rivky and Rabbi Ross came to Princeton with the ambitious goal of providing Jewish educational and identity-defining opportunities to as many interested Jewish students as possible. They tried to achieve this through a wide range of activities such as:
A Shabbat shiur which was a weekly text study and discussion related to some aspect of the Parasha.
Lunch ‘n Learn — This is a weekly text-based discussion over lunch, usually revolving around a halachic issue, either timely or based upon expressed student interest.
Some topics so far have included Women and Kiddush, Adoption in Jewish Law, Jews and Tattoos and how to navigate the holiday season in America.
Also weekly was Bible Thumpers—This is a weekly Tanach learning group lead by Rivky in which participants read a chapter ahead of time and come prepared to discuss it in depth
Although both Rivky and Rabbi Ross enjoy giving shiur, most enjoyable was their one on one learning with various students throughout the week. Students would learn with them once or twice a week in whatever subject the student wanted -- be it Gemara, Mishna, Halacha, Philosophy, or anything else.
The Rosses are both very excited about continuing to give their regular classes as well as offering anything new that might be of interest. They both hope to learn one on one with all their old students, and certainly hope to see many new faces!
